Surgical technologists are integral members of the surgical team, assisting surgeons, anesthesiologists, and registered nurses in providing care to patients in the operating room and facilitating the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. The Blinn College District Surgical Technology Program is a two-year associate degree program that prepares students for high-demand careers as surgical technologists. Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.Gain the Skills You Need to Join the Surgical Team.Able to safely transport patients on stretchers to bed using good body mechanics.Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and ginger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.Minimum two years of peri-operative practice in an acute care facility.Must be able to read, write, and perform arithmetic functions such as percentages and discounts in order to maintain accurate recordkeeping systems.Must be able to work in a dynamic ever changing environment and take appropriate action.Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment.If hired Augor after must be a Certified Surgical First Assistant ( CSFA) offered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical assisting (NBSTSA) within the first year of hire.Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association preferred.Basic Life Support( BLS) through American Heart Association(AHA) required.Certification as a first Assist and a minimum of two years’ experience may offset the Associate Degree requirement if first assist certified is achieved prior to August 2021.Must be a Certified Surgical First Assistant ( CSFA) offered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical assisting (NBSTSA) within the first year of hire. If hired Augor after graduate of an accredited Surgical Assistant program.If hired prior to Aug graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program, but is not required to be certified by the NCCPA or hold a license to practice, or graduate of an un-accredited surgical assistant program. ![]() Performs any other duties or procedures incident to the surgical procedure deemed necessary and directed and supervised by the surgeon. ![]() ![]()
